Stone carpet sealing

A stone carpet sealer is a protective layer that is applied to the gravel layer to protect it from various types of damage. It forms a barrier against dirt, stains, moisture, wear and chemical effects. These sealers can be made of different materials such as polyurethane or epoxy resin and are used to improve the durability of the gravel floor and preserve or customize its aesthetic properties. They help to make the surface easier to clean and prevent the penetration of liquids, extending the overall life of the floor.

A basic distinction can be made between aesthetic sealers and utility sealers. The first group focuses on the visual modification of the gravel layer, for example by creating a matt surface. The second group comprises products that primarily fulfill a specific task without specifically achieving a certain appearance.

Depending on the desired function, there are other stone carpet sealers to choose from. For example, there are special products for creating non-slip surfaces, extremely scratch and impact-resistant sealers and products that give the surface a silky matt sheen. The best way to make the right choice for your building project is to arrange a consultation.

It is usually sufficient to apply a stone carpet sealer once over the entire surface. With special products such as the anti-slip sealer, it may be necessary to apply it twice in order to achieve greater slip resistance.

The advantages of the individual systems differ depending on the product. Basically, all sealing layers offer increased protection for the underlying gravel coating.

A mistake when applying the sealing layer cannot be rectified afterwards, so professional execution is extremely important for this work step. Therefore, always have stone carpet sealers applied by a specialist company.

At normal room temperature, Qubo® stone carpet sealers usually dry out by the next day. In particularly cold rooms such as detached garages, however, curing may take longer. You should therefore discuss the necessary room temperatures and installation times with your installer in advance of the construction project.

Even pigmented sealing layers have almost no influence on the color of a gravel floor. The gravel color always has a decisive influence on the final result.

The surface texture can certainly be influenced by the use of a sealing layer, for example by using the Protect and anti-slip seals.

Seals are often used in conjunction with pore closures, which themselves also have an influence on the surface structure of the gravel base.

While stone carpet sealers make the gravel floor even more robust and easier to maintain, most products have no influence on the type of maintenance: a gravel coating with a matt seal can be vacuumed and mopped in the same way as a floor without a sealing layer. Only the anti-slip seal changes the maintenance due to the rougher surface. Microfiber cloths, for example, can no longer be used to wipe up stains. Brushes are usually used here to remove dirt.
